Zebra DS8178 Cordless 1D/2D Bluetooth Handheld Imager overview
The DS8178 is the cordless model in Zebra's DS8100 series of high-performance handheld imagers. A 1,280 x 960 sensor with a wide field of view reads 1D and 2D codes as well as Digimarc digital watermarks, with UPC decode ranges up to 61 cm.
It connects through Bluetooth 4.0 with BLE (Class 1 up to 100 m) to its cradle, which provides USB, RS232, keyboard wedge or IBM 46XX host connections. A 2500 mAh PowerPrecision+ battery is rated for 65,000 scans per charge, and a PowerCap capacitor alternative is also offered.
The scanner is IP52 sealed, handles 1.8 m drops and 2,000 tumbles, and is warranted for three years. Zebra lists retail POS and self-checkout, BOPIS, inventory, hospitality, logistics, light manufacturing and government applications.
