Zebra ZD421 4-Inch Desktop Barcode Printer overview
The ZD421 is Zebra's mainstream 4-inch desktop printer. It is offered as a direct thermal model, a thermal transfer model using standard 300 m or 74 m ribbon rolls, and a thermal transfer model that uses an easy-load ribbon cartridge. Print speed reaches 6 ips at 203 dpi and 4 ips at 300 dpi.
USB 2.0 and USB host are standard, together with Bluetooth Low Energy for Zebra's setup app and an NFC tag for tap-to-pair. Ethernet, Wi-Fi 5 or Wi-Fi 6 with Bluetooth, and serial can be added, several of them as field-installable modules, so the printer can be adapted after purchase.
An optional battery base lets the printer run away from mains power for a full shift. Zebra lists retail shelf and pharmacy labels, hospitality ticketing and wristbands, healthcare specimen and patient ID labels, government document tracking and logistics shipping labels among its uses.
