Fixed-mount scanners can capture codes at a kiosk, conveyor, gate or assembly station without a worker aiming a handheld device. Reliable performance depends on positioning and integration as much as the scanner's decoding capability.

Describe the scan event

Record the barcode types, size, print quality, surface and presentation angle. Measure the distance between scanner and code and how quickly the item moves through the read area. If several code locations are possible, document their range and orientation.

Design the optical setup

Plan the control and data interface

Confirm USB, serial or other required interfaces and how the host receives a successful read. Define timeouts, duplicate suppression, no-read alarms and the action operators take when a code is missing. Test the device with the real PLC, kiosk or application rather than a laptop alone.

Run an operational pilot

Test good, damaged, low-contrast and mispositioned codes through a representative production cycle. Record no-reads and false triggers, then adjust mounting, lighting or code placement before increasing volume. Include a maintenance routine for cleaning and a spare-device plan for critical stations.

Newland's FM60 Cubera AI and FM415 Bass are examples of fixed-mount scanners with distinct published specifications and use cases. IndianBarcode can help compare available configurations, but final performance should be validated at the actual installation.
